The best freestanding cookers are our tough lab tests, so you can be sure the top models we recommend cook evenly, grill beautifully and come with a hob that can boil quickly as well as simmer gently.
Electric models tend to be some of the cheapest appliances around and they offer a simple and streamlined cooking experience. Easy to use and safe to run, electric models compromise of a range of different oven and hob technologies and designs.
You can often get three forms of electric hob with these cookers. Solid plate tops are still commonly found on the budget models, and while they are the least energy efficient and take the longest time to heat, they are still reliable options. Ceramic hobs are popular because they are easy to clean and control and they look streamlined. By heating up the ceramic glass surface efficiently, ceramic hobs tend not to waste energy. Taking ceramic hob technology to the next level are induction hobs that only heat up the pans surface thanks to their magnetic technology
To help you avoid spending money on a cooker that will make preparing meals a frustrating ordeal, we’ve rounded up five models that we think you’ll be more than happy with. To choose the right freestanding cookers, you can view our recommendations below.

What to Consider When Choosing a freestanding Cooker
Double or Single – Something often asked is whether you should buy a single or double freestanding cooker. This depends on your needs, if you’d like to use a grill and oven at the same time then you will need a double oven that allows you to cook sides, main dishes and more, all at once. If not then you can purchase a single electric cooker. There are single models that provide huge capacity.
Energy Efficiency – In this day and age, there is no reason to venture into C-rated energy efficiency. There are plenty of A and B rated energy cookers. Not only is that better for our environment but it will also save you significant money on your energy bill.
Cooker Functions – Take a look at added extras such as Bluetooth compatibility, slow cooker features and keep warm functions. They are great additions and worth spending a little extra on but generally, all you need is different power settings, a grill and a fan that spreads heat evenly.
Self Clean Cookers – Eliminate the dreaded chore of cleaning out your oven with the self-cleaning functions. You can find cookers with enamel and special liners that absorb grease.
Cooker Dimensions – Before committing to a particular cooker choice you will need to make sure that you check the dimensions of the cooker and space where it will stand in your kitchen. Freestanding cookers come in three standard widths – 50cm (500mm), 44cm (550mm) and 60cm (600mm).
Oven Capacity – For those preparing meals for an entire family, you will need to take a close look at the oven capacity. There are some huge cavities of 70-litres plus.
Cooker Design – The main purpose of an electric cooker is to cook your food, however, this is a large kitchen appliance that you will have for years to come. When choosing your cooker look for cookers with pleasing exteriors that will suit your kitchen theme.
In the UK the electric cookers sales outweigh gas cookers sales and there are many reasons for this. The main reason is most likely due to installation – every house has an electric point for an oven, but if you have never owned a gas cooker you will have the added cost of gas connection.
