Does it meet current safety standards? The gap between the bars of cots and cotbeds should not exceed 6.5cm – any more and there may be a risk of babies getting their limbs or head trapped in between. Cots and cotbeds should meet the latest safety standard , EN716:2008+A1:2013.
Are there any additional features? Some have additional storage, which is useful if your room is on the small side. Many cotbeds include the option of purchasing a toddler bed guard to keep your child from falling out of bed. Some cots also include a teething rail; you’d be surprised how many babies chew on the cot sides.
